Questions?
Straight answers.
No sales-page fog. Everything below describes exactly how the platform behaves — how the money moves, what the AI credits do, and how the dropshipping integrations actually work.
The basics
What actually is shoppa.uk?+
Software, not a marketplace. You get your own storefront at
your-shop.shoppa.uk, connected to your own
Stripe account, with your own customer
list. We charge a flat monthly fee for the software —
we take 0% of your sales and we never hold your money.
Who can sell on shoppa.uk?+
UK-based sellers. Storefronts price in pounds, subscriptions bill in GBP, the VAT tooling assumes UK rules, and you'll need a UK Stripe account to take payments. If that's you, you're in.
How fast can I actually launch?+
Most shops are presentable in about ten minutes. Signup takes one form (no card needed for the 14-day trial), then our 13-step builder walks you through designing the shop like a character creator — hero style, palette, typography, layout — with a live preview redrawing next to you the whole way.
Do I need to know design or code?+
No. Every design decision is a picker, not a stylesheet — and if you can't find the words, the built-in AI will draft your product descriptions, your About page, even your newsletter. You just approve and tweak.
Money & payments
When do I get paid?+
On Stripe's schedule, straight to your bank — usually next-business-day in the UK once your Stripe account is verified. Payments go customer → your Stripe → your bank. There is no shoppa balance, no payout button, no waiting on us — structurally, we can't touch the money.
What does shoppa take per sale?+
0%. Your only costs are your flat monthly subscription and Stripe's own card-processing fees (1.5% + 20p for standard UK cards at the time of writing — that's Stripe's charge, not ours, and you'd pay it with any provider).
How do refunds work?+
Refund the customer from your own Stripe dashboard like any Stripe merchant. shoppa picks the refund up automatically — Stripe notifies us with a cryptographically signed event and the order flips to Refunded in your dashboard within seconds, so your records and reports stay accurate without any double entry.
What about VAT and invoices?+
Orders generate proper UK-VAT-aware PDF invoices, per-product VAT rates are supported, and your own subscription receipts itemise VAT too. Your accountant will not hate us.
Tokens & AI
What are tokens (AI credits)?+
Tokens are the credit that powers the platform's AI features and marketing sends. Every plan includes a monthly allowance — 500 on Trial, 500 on Basic, 5,000 on Pro — granted automatically each billing month. Unused tokens roll over. They're for platform features, not a cryptocurrency, and they never expire while your account is active.
What does each AI feature cost?+
Everything transactional — order confirmations, receipts, password resets, tracking updates — is free and unmetered. Tokens only ever pay for the optional AI features and marketing broadcasts you choose to run.
What happens if I run out?+
Nothing breaks, ever. The storefront assistant politely tells customers it's taking a break and points them to your contact page. A newsletter campaign checks your balance before sending and refuses cleanly rather than half-sending to your list. Transactional emails are unaffected. Top up whenever you like, or wait for next month's grant.
Can I buy more?+
Yes — top-up packs from your dashboard, with bigger packs earning bonus tokens: £10 → 1,000 · £25 → 3,000 (+20%) · £50 → 7,000 (+40%) · £100 → 16,000 (+60%). Every purchase gets a proper VAT receipt.
Who — or what — is Pixel?+
Pixel is the AI helper you design during onboarding — skin, hair, outfit, personality, name, the lot. Every plan gets Pixel as a dashboard co-pilot. On Pro (and during your trial, which previews Pro), Pixel also goes live on your storefront, answering customer questions using shop knowledge you control — you write its briefing, so it only knows what you want it to know.
Importing & dropshipping
How does the AliExpress integration work?+
You connect your own AliExpress account, then search and import products — variants, images and cost prices included — straight into your catalogue with your own margin on top.
When a customer orders, fulfilment is one click: we place the AliExpress order with the customer's delivery address, let you pick the shipping line, and sync tracking numbers back to the order automatically. You can also re-sync an item's cost price any time to check your margin is still healthy.
And CJ Dropshipping?+
Same idea, CJ flavour: search the CJ catalogue, import with variants and ship-from options, and when orders come in, place and pay for the CJ order from your CJ balance without ever leaving your dashboard. Un-placed orders can be cancelled vendor-side with one click.
I'm on Shopify — can I move my catalogue over?+
Yes. Export your products as CSV from Shopify and upload it to shoppa — the import runs in the background, brings variants with it, re-hosts your images, and is smart about re-runs (existing products are updated by SKU rather than duplicated). You'll get a per-item log of exactly what happened.
Are there product limits?+
10 on Trial, 100 on Basic, unlimited on Pro. The limits are enforced consistently everywhere — manual adds, AliExpress and CJ imports, and CSV migrations all count the same — and bulk imports skip over-limit items with a clear message instead of failing silently.
Emails
What emails get sent for me?+
All the transactional plumbing, automatically and free: order confirmations, payment receipts, shipping and tracking updates, password resets, account verifications. They're dressed in your shop's name and brand colours, and every link points at your storefront — your customers see your brand, not ours.
What happens when a customer replies?+
Replies go to your support email — the address you set in your shop settings, which also appears in your storefront footer. Customers can also message you through the built-in storefront contact flow, which lands in your unified dashboard inbox.
Can I send newsletters?+
Built in. Your storefront can collect subscribers (there's a newsletter-ready footer style), campaigns cost 1 token per recipient, and the AI will draft the whole thing from a one-line prompt for 10 tokens. Every send automatically includes a one-click, per-recipient unsubscribe link, so you stay on the right side of UK marketing rules without thinking about it.
Security & privacy
Is my Stripe key safe with you?+
Your secret key is sealed with AES-256-GCM encryption before it touches our database, is never written to logs, and is never sent back to a browser. Order events from Stripe are cryptographically signature-checked before we act on them — and we configure that webhook in your Stripe account automatically, so there's nothing for you to misconfigure.
How is my account protected?+
Authenticator-app two-factor login with single-use recovery codes, passwords hashed with cost-12 bcrypt, brute-force rate limiting on every login surface, and CSRF protection on every form on the platform. None of it is gated behind a higher plan — every shop gets all of it.
Who owns my customer data?+
You do. Customer accounts are scoped to your shop alone — another seller on the platform can't see or reach your list, and login sessions are bound to your shop's own domain. GDPR consent is recorded with a timestamp at signup, and customers get self-serve unsubscribe on every marketing send.
Plans & billing
What happens when my trial ends?+
Nothing dramatic. You get a 14-day grace window after the trial expires — your shop stays live while you pick a plan. If you don't, the storefront pauses (it shows a "store closed" page) but nothing is deleted; subscribe and everything comes straight back.
Can I cancel any time?+
Yes — and your shop stays live to the end of the period you've paid for, plus the same 14-day grace window to change your mind. No exit fees, no data hostage-taking.
Any hidden fees I should know about?+
The full list of things you can ever pay us: your flat monthly subscription, and optional token top-ups if you out-run your included allowance. That's it. Stripe's card-processing fees are paid to Stripe, as they would be anywhere.
Still curious? Just try it.
14 days, no card, a full shop to play with. The trial answers questions faster than we can.
